Highlights:
This isn’t just a tour – it’s a journey through the heart and soul of Morocco.
Upon arrival at Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport, you’ll be greeted and driven directly to Fes. Enjoy views of the fertile plains and glimpses of Rabat and Meknes en route. Settle into your riad in Fes for the evening.
After breakfast, immerse yourself in Morocco’s oldest imperial city. Your guided tour will navigate the labyrinthine alleys of Fes el-Bali, visiting the Royal Palace gate, the historic Jewish quarter (Mellah – the first in Morocco), the renowned Al Qaraouine University (world’s oldest), the vibrant Chouara Tanneries, and the Moulay Idriss Mausoleum. Following lunch, visit a traditional tile cooperative and experience a wonderful panoramic view over the entire Medina.
Depart Fes towards Merzouga. Journey through Ifrane, a charming mountain town often called “Morocco’s Switzerland,” and stop in the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas near Azrou, where you may see Barbary macaques. Continue through the magnificent hills, passing Midelt and traversing the Tizi Ntalghamt pass. Marvel at the spectacular Ziz Gorge and the expansive Ziz Valley, noting the landscape shift towards the desert as you approach Errachidia. Travel along the Ziz Valley, stopping for panoramic views, before passing through Erfoud and Rissani. Arrive in Merzouga in the afternoon, welcomed with mint tea at your hotel/riad.
After breakfast, embark on a 4×4 excursion to explore the diverse sites around the Erg Chebbi dunes. Visit the Hassi Labied oasis and its irrigation canals, and the seasonal Sriji Lake (if water levels permit). Continue to Khamlia village, renowned for its soulful Gnawa music, a rich cultural heritage. Discover the M’ifis mines and visit a nomadic Berber family in their tent for tea, learning about desert life. After lunch at a local restaurant, return to the village. From here, begin your camel trek (approx. 1-1.5 hours) into the Erg Chebbi dunes. Pause atop a dune to watch the sunset, try sandboarding, and capture photos. Continue to your Berber desert camp, where you’ll be welcomed with tea. Enjoy a traditional dinner, Berber drumming under the stars, and sleep in a nomadic tent.
Rise early to witness what may be the best sunrise of your life over the dunes. After breakfast and a hot shower at the camp, camel-trek or transfer by 4WD back to Merzouga. Meet your driver and depart for Rissani, then Tinghir, and finally the Todra Gorges – Morocco’s highest and narrowest. After lunch, drive through the Dades Valley, admiring its majestic sandcastle-like kasbahs and the unique rock formations known as “monkey toes.”
After breakfast, travel through the Dades Valley, often called the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,” offering numerous photo opportunities. Stop at Kalaat Mgouna, the “Rose Capital,” with an option to visit a rose cooperative. Continue to Ouarzazate and then to the iconic Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO-listed kasbah famed for its film appearances and historic Berber architecture. Your journey continues over the majestic Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260m) in the High Atlas Mountains. Here, you’ll have the chance to see Berber women in their cooperatives producing Argan oil, unique to Morocco, before arriving at your accommodation in Marrakech.
Following breakfast, discover Marrakech, the vibrant “Red City of Morocco.” Your guided tour will ensure you see key historical and cultural sites, including the Majorelle Gardens, the Koutoubia Tower (exterior view), the Saadian Tombs, and the Bahia Palace. After lunch at a restaurant near the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa square, you’ll walk through the bustling souks, viewing a vast array of handicrafts. Enjoy some free time in the afternoon to wander further and explore other parts of the city at your own pace.
